PERIODONTAL DISEASE FACTS
It is a bacterial infection that affects the gum, ligaments and bone supporting the teeth
This bacteria lives in plaque which hardens over time and causes gum irritation (ie: gingivitis--see diagram below)
Left untreated develops into a bacterial infection which attacks the supporting bone
It is called the SILENT disease because without regular cleanings and check-ups you may never know you have it!
