Periodontal disease

The silent mouth disease

75% of adults over the age of 35 show signs of periodontal disease

PERIODONTAL DISEASE FACTS

It is a bacterial infection that affects the gum, ligaments and bone supporting the teeth

This bacteria lives in plaque which hardens over time and causes gum irritation (ie: gingivitis--see diagram below)

Left untreated develops into a bacterial infection which attacks the supporting bone

It is called the SILENT disease because without regular cleanings and check-ups you may never know you have it!
